The Fabulous Fifties

6th, 7th & 8th August 2009
Archway Studio Theatre
Start 7:45pm (Includes small buffet)

The 50's saw a great change in popular music. In the beginning of the 50's it was a carry over from the Big Band/Easy Listening era, but as the years moved forward we began to hear Doo Wop music. And then, when Elvis entered the music kingdom, it was the birth of Rock & Roll. Teenagers came forth with a new type of dancing at the sock hops, and the popular fashion for the girls was poodle skirts and bobby sox, and white t-shirts and jeans for the boys.

The boys wore their hair in a DA or Duck's Butt with a lot of grease to keep it in place (a little dab'll do ya), and a true girlish teeny bopper wore her hair in a poni-tail. The music was sometimes called the "bubble gum" music, and the new singers and groups became our "teen idols." From the musical cast that brought to you last summer the Swinging Sixties why not come and join us once again for the Fabulous Fifties?

Turn up in costume if you like, wear your poodle skirts and your teddy boy drapes but not compulsory! Just come along and jive the night away to the Rock and Roll songs of Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Gene Vincent,Eddie Cochran and Carl Perkins to name just a few.
We will also include some Swing in the form of songs of Bobby Darin and Dean Martin. Yes Memories were made
of this , Come on Everybody , see you in the Studio Theatre on 6th, 7th 8th August
