Having been taken to watch the plays and pantomimes with my mum and dad, Audrey and Ken Morris, I soon took to the stage myself at the age of 9 years! Appearing as a carol singer in the pantomime “Old Mother Hubbard” in 1981, I was only on stage for five minutes but this was enough to get me hooked!!
Up to the age of 15 I appeared in every single pantomime, my first speaking role being Polly in the Pied Piper at 11years old, when dear Arthur took a chance on me.
As soon as I was of age I became a Junior Associate as was soon asked to be back stage in When We Are Married, and that was it!! I was permanently involved with nearly every other production, whether on stage or backstage.
Loving children, I soon got involved with the Youth Workshop and even direct a couple of their productions. From this I was then asked to direct my first adult production, this being Alan Ayckbourn’s “Time of My Life”.
Over the years I have played in many different productions, from “wind in the Willows” Mole to Lady Macduff in “Macbeth”, from Dandini in “Cinderella” to Audrey in “Little Shop of Horrors”, to name but a few!
More recently, I played the Scarecrow in the much loved “Wizard of Oz” and directed a fabulous pantomime called “Alice in Pantoland” which I was also lucky enough to be in due to a very supportive husband!
From that on a personal level, I am a qualified Nursery Nurse and used to work in a private school, however nearly 6 years ago I married my husband Phil and we now have 2 fantastic and lively boys, Dylan who is just over 4 year old and Charlie is nearly 3 years old. Obviously I’m hoping that they will follow their Mum’s footsteps and tread the boards too!! I have even managed to get Phil on the stage but strongly disguised as Elvis!!
Currently, I stand on the Council of Management and have the title of “Millennium Project Manager” in which I am leading the way forward with our extension plans of the theatre, by means of fund raising, sponsorship and grants.
Anyway, enough about me, all I can say that the good old Arch is a big part of my life and my families, and minus the fact of fulfilling my love of being on the stage and entertaining our audiences, the Archway is really my second family!
