In a bar in a remote part of western Ireland three local men, together with the landlord are swapping spooky stories to impress an attractive young woman, Valerie, recently arrived from Dublin. What begins as a simple visit to the local pub soon turns out to be an evening of both funny and spell binding stories, until the final tale told by Valerie herself, takes a strange and unexpected twist and changes the whole mood of the evening and marks a significant shift among the chemistry of the group. The play is typically Irish, funny, salty, sad and sweet and is as much about the lack of close relationships and missed connections as it is about anything else.
The play has been performed worldwide since opening in London in 1997 (where it ran for over 2years) and has enjoyed enormous success. Conor McPherson received the Evening Standard Award for outstanding new playwright for this play and later won the Oliver Award for best new play.
I am delighted to say I have managed to assemble an excellent cast of drinkers!! to bring this play to life, consisting of Mike Park (returning after far too long an absence) Ali Hannant, Kevin Day, Simon Bonsor and Andrew Cook.
The play does contain Some Strong Language, lasts approx 90 minutes without an interval and offers a highly intriguing evening in the theatre.
