Performances start 19:45
In this charming, literate and elegant play, Hugh Whitemore (award winning playwright of ‘Stevie’, ‘Pack of Lies’, 'Breaking the Code’ and many more) explores the extraordinary friendship of three correspondents over more than 25 years: Sir Sydney Cockerell (friend of William Morris and curator of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge and father of the inventor of the Hovercraft), Dame Laurentia McLachlan (Abbess of Stanbrook Abbey and author of ‘The Grammar of Plainsong’) and George Bernard Shaw.
Chris Butler (Sir Sydney Cockerell), Tom Haddon (George Bernard Shaw) and new member to the Archway, Jackie Curran (Dame Laurentia) lead us through the wide variety of subjects this unlikely trio discussed - from the existence and nature of God to the finer points of tango dancing!, as they read from the extraordinary and charming letters they exchanged.
Nick Merrick has designed the set and Trish Moram looks after the production as Stage Manager.
