Shakers
by John Godber
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to SHAKERS. That trendy bar in the main street where the neon light shines out into the night, tempting passer-by.
Every town has its Shakers, the oh-so trendy cocktail bar where everyone wants to be seen: from the check-out girls to the chinless wonders, from the yuppies to the local lads tittering at the thought of a "Long Slow Comfortable Screw".
We are given a wickedly funnily glimpse of this world by the four long-suffering waitresses, offering a fascinating view of the reality that lurks behind the plastic palms and Pina Coladas. Plays by Godber ("Yorkshire's own contemporary Shakespeare" - Lynn Gardner, The Guardian 6/5/00) are always well received at the Archway, the most recent being "Up 'n' Under" and "Teachers", and I promise you that Shakers will not disappoint
