Single Spies
by Alan Bennett
Members will be familiar with Alan Bennett’s trademark style of acerbic wit and his ability to depict believable characters. From the Archway’s production of Bennett’s The Madness of King George the Third, they will also know his liking for portraying characters from history.
Do not, then, miss the chance to see Single Spies, two short plays in one evening, which present incidents (one real, one imagined) from the lives of two twentieth century spies, Guy Burgess and Anthony Blunt, who both passed secrets to the Russians before, during and after World War Two.
In the first, actress Coral Browne spends an afternoon with Guy Burgess in the drab Moscow flat where he is in exile, and in the second Blunt is on an errand to the Queen’s picture gallery and is astounded to meet HMQ herself!
It is our responsibility to bring these real-life characters to you.
See Sue Harrington as Coral Browne, Gary Andrews as Guy Burgess, Chris Butler as Anthony Blunt and Sue Sherwin as our Queen, together with a stellar supporting cast.
