Little Theatre Guild
The Archway Theatre is one of 99 member theatres of the Little Theatre Guild. The guild is open to any theatre that manages its own theatre premises and has amongst its aims the following:
- To act as the co-ordinating body for the development of independent amateur theatres, and to lobby on their behalf on matters of national interest, such as taxation, charity status, licensing, sponsorship insurance an royalties.
- To promote and develop the involvement and interest of young people in all aspects of theatre.
- To help and improve relationships with local authorities and regional arts boards.
- To provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, nationally and internationally.
- To organise national and regional conferences, workshops and seminars.
- To promote close co-operation between members in all aspects of theatre.
The Archway Theatre is lucky to have seven guild members within 1 hours travelling time, and thus has been able to use the resources of those theatres for props, costumes, lighting equipment and to share information and seek advice and guidance.
At present the Archway Theatre Company provides the guild with expertise in Children in Entertainment legislation and currently represents the LTG on the recently established Children in Entertainment Action Group set up with LEA’s and the entertainment industry to lobby government for improvements in the current legislation.
In July 2008 the Archway Theatre will be part of a “Tri Theatre Adventure” where we will present Alan Ayckbourn’s play trilogy “Damsels in Distress”. This is three linked plays that will be performed by the Archway Theatre Company, Lewes Little Theatre, Lewes and The Oast Theatre, Tonbridge, who will each produce one of the trilogy plays and then tour it to the other two theatres over a 12 day period.
