The History of "Harvey"
In 1952, Horley Central Players produced "Harvey" a comedy by Mary Chase at the constitutional Hall, Horley.
This play centres around a loveable dipsomaniac (played by Percy Allen) whose closest friend is an invisible six feet tall white rabbit called "Harvey". Despite his invisibility, a painting of "Harvey" hangs in the living room of Elwood P. Dowd, the dipsomaniac.
This picture was painted by the productions designer, Michael Noakes, who gave it to Percy Allen at the end of the show.
Percy has kindly allowed us to hang it in the Archway Theatre.
Michael Noakes, P.P.R.O.I.,R.P. is a well known artist and portrait painter, who has painted the portraits of many famous people. He is a past president of both the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Royal Society Portrait Painters.
